Hello Fathers,

If you’ve read my posts then you know I have recently gone through the loss of my mother. That loss shook me to the core and made me face myself, my life, and reflect. I have dealt with minor depression, probably most of my life, but never accepted it or allowed myself to dwell, being a poor boy I was raised to persevere and not wallow in self-pity. I tried that for most of my life building a shell and always internalizing my pain, fear, and anxiety, but the damn has broken I can no longer bury it and move along, I must face it all.

This is where the Happiness Project comes in, it is a way for me to face my fears, find my peace and reflect on my journey. I have read a lot of self-help and motivational books, blogs, etc., they all lead to one critical aspect before you can find success (whatever success is for you), you have to first find peace and happiness with who you are. In order to find that peace and self-happiness, I reflected on what are the steps and principles I need to live by, this is what I devised. A year long self-discovery journey led by simple rules and principles, which are detailed below.

Principles:

  1. God and Family – Above everything else
  2. Be A Friend – Be a better friend, check up on them more
  3. Stop Being Negative – Find the positive
  4. Smile More – It goes a long way
  5. Speak Positively – Say a compliment to yourself and others daily
  6. Financial Freedom – Save, invest, and fuck the rat race
  7. Find My Passion – Discover what makes me happy, and make money doing it
  8. Reflect Daily – Make adjustments (even if small and subtle)

Rules:

  1. Follow the Principles.
  2. Write and Reflect on the Progress, record how you feel.
  3. Share your experience.
  4. Do not beat yourself up when you fail, you will, it is about accepting failure, and learning from it.
  5. Every moment and every day is an opportunity to improve.

So there you have it, it is written, set on paper, and published to the world, so let’s begin…
