What to do with kids during self-distancing and no parks open? Simple answer, landscape!

Thanks again for joining fathers! Question for you, what are you all doing to entertain your families while being forced to be at home? As the days go on it gets harder to figure out what to do. So I put them to work with an entire yard of landscape projects.

“I’ll be damned if my children grow up to be lazy!”

A personal quote

My wife and I have been wanting to redo a lot of landscaping since we bought our house a year and a half ago. The old owners were older and had little yard and a ton of gardens. We have little kids, who have a ton of energy and need a yard to run around in.

Since we cannot go anywhere or really do anything, we decided to take advantage and redo the whole yard. First off, I herniated a disc in my back took me off the grid for over a week, but the yard looks damn good after over 120 bags of mulch… Although injury pursued it was a blast having my son help “carry” the bags, added time, but a special moment!

In March we had the trees trimmed as well as removed two, one in the front and one on beside our house. Although I hated losing the cherry blossom, we now have a lot more sun to filter through and the grass has taken off. An added bonus, one trunk has given my son a volcano for his dinosaurs, and the other a stand highlights my new bird bath!

We have an entire side garden that we still need to fill with plants, wanting a mix of blooms throughout the year. With having a corner lot and over 1/3rd of an acre, there are many projects still to do. I have one more flower bed to do, around another 15 bags of mulch, then around 10 bags of big river rock.

My next project after that, a two tier deck and trellis to pressure wash repaint, and replace a few boards. If there is one thing to come out of this coronavirus, it is a lot of damn good looking yards, there has to be a silver lining.
